My background is in marketing and public relations which is probably why I have such strong opinions on how our industry should be doing business.

I believe that marketing and public relations boils down to a few simple rules which apply as much in life as they do in business:

• Treat your clients / customers as you would like to be treated by your suppliers
• Communication is key – if you’re talking to each other there’s always hope for a positive way forward. It’s when either you stop talking, or your clients/customers no longer care enough to listen that problems arise
• Don’t be selfish – share something special with your clients/customers not because you want something in return but because it’s just nice to do. (This includes information, something that will make their lives easier, not just free products or services)
